1970 Dodge Charger 500

This car is owned by Derek Baer in Queen Creek, AZ

Owner's description:

The car was found by a friend of mine up in Iowa at a government seizure auction of all things. He calls me and said "Theres a butt ugly Pink Charger about to go across the block that looks like a total POS." I had him tell describe the car and to look for the fender tag... long story short it had the original fender tag and a 383 that didn't run but had a bunch of paperwork showing a bunch of work done. (Motor/trans rebuilt) I told him to buy it and I'd pay him to bring it back to Illinois for me. He was the high bidder and won the car for $2,250. I gave him an extra $1,000 for buying and transportation.

Turns out a body shop was seized and the Charger was one of the cars in the shop. The car barely rolled because the suspension was so worn out and the rear springs were badly sagging. It was missing most of the trim including the front bumper and grill, most of the interior trim was gone but it had the console and bucket seats.

I spent 3 months cleaning, sanding and buffing the horrible single stage “quickly” paint job, added a white bumble bee stripe and vinyl top along with new carpet, seat covers and headliner. I rebuilt the suspension, added a fresh 8.75 with 3.23 sure grip and R/T springs. The motor fired right up and indeed was freshly built and as it turns out ended up being the original number matching engine and transmission!

I haven't done anything to the car aside from regular maintenance and it has been an awesome car. It's waiting for a proper rotisserie restoration (that it deserves) but I just love driving the car so much I don't want to take it out of service for what I know will turn out to be a 5 year build.
